From San José

By Air

From the main international airport Juan Santamaria (Alajuela) with Sansa or from Tobias Bolaños airport in Pavas – San Josè with Nature Air to the airstrip in Tambor. The flight lasts 35 mins.

From Tambor it is a scenic 37 Km drive passing through Cobano and Montezuma. There are always taxis waiting for the plane to land however I recommend you book a taxi, Gilberto on: 8826 9055 or 2642 0241, nice and clean a/c 4x4 vehicle.

 

By Land

If you are traveling by car, take the main road (Panamerican) to Puntarenas where you catch the ferry to Paquera pier. The crossing takes about 1 1/4 hours. From Paquera follow the signs to Tambor, Cobano, Montezuma and on to Cabuya.

There are two ferries (Tambor 1 and Tambor 2) traveling from Puntarenas to Paquera and vice versa. Tambor 2 is a very big ferry that can load up to 160 cars. Ferry Tambor 1 loads up to 50 cars approx.

We highly recommend you to check the schedules of the ferries before starting your trip as they often change. Please take note of the following phone number:

It is also possible to reach this area by bus, there are direct buses to Puntarenas. From there you can take the passengers boat (lancha) to Paquera or the ferry. The “lancha” sails from behind the fish market in Puntarenas to Paquera pier.

At the pier in Paquera there is a connecting bus service to Montezuma.

A new a/c non stop bus service from the “Coca Cola” bus terminal in San José leaves:

• Mon through Sat: 7.30am, 3.30 pm. Sunday 7.30am only .

• Return from Montezuma to San José : 8.30am, 2.30pm

 

A local mini bus service or private taxi will be available in Montezuma to drive you the remaining 6 Km to Cabuya and to the Cabo Blanco absolute reserve.

• From Montezuma at 7:00am, 9:00am,1:00pm,4:00pm.

• From Cabuya at 8:15am,10:15am, 14:15pm, 18:15pm
